At Ingleburn Veterinary Hospital, we don't try to stock every product on the market.
We carefully select those products in each category which are effective, of high quality,
and represent value for money. We back all the products that we sell with professional
advice and service, to make sure that the product that you buy will meet your needs.
In the long run, we believe that buying quality products that work is cheaper than buying
a product from a supermarket that may be less effective, or inappropriate for your pet.
This page contains information (or links to information) on a selection of the
products that we sell and recommend. Prices on some of these products can be found
on our price list page. Unfortunately,
it is not feasible for us to write descriptions of all of the products that we sell.
Over time we will slowly build the number of products covered here.
Our newsletter articles and other
information sheets often mention a variety of products
that we recommend for a particular problem. So if for example you're looking for advice
on cleaning your pet's teeth or controlling fleas, but don't have a particular product
in mind, you may be best to look elsewhere first. Then come back to this page if necessary
to see if there is more detailed information available on that particular product.
If you see this icon
anywhere on this page, click it to go to the product manufacturer's web page.
Our Links page is another source of information,
where you can find the web sites of a large number of product manufacturers.
Please note that many of these are only very brief but do give some help in
selecting the right product for your needs.
Sentinel
monthly flavoured tablets for dogs stop fleas from breeding,
prevent heartworm and kill intestinal worms too.
It is usually our first recommendation for dogs, but does not kill adult fleas.
Sentinel may not be appropriate if your dog has regular contact with other untreated animals.

-

(for cats and dogs)
is a monthly "spot-on" product applied to the back of the neck
which provides heartworm prevention and flea control.
In cats it also controls roundworm and hookworm.
It is generally our first recommendation for cats,
and is safe even if they're already infected with heartworm.
Revolution is also safe to give to kittens (and puppies) as young as 6 weeks of age.
For more information, refer to our Dec 1999 Newsletter
SR-12 Injection
is a once-a-year product for the prevention of heartworm disease in dogs.
Its sustained-release formula ensures a full 12 months protection from a single dose.
It can safely be combined with your pet's annual vaccination visit if required,
and is suitable for all dogs from 6 months of age.
We recommend ProHeart injection particularly for people who have trouble
remembering monthly heartworm tablets, or who have trouble giving their dog tablets.
However, it should be noted that ProHeart SR-12 is for heartworm only.
It has no effect against either fleas or intestinal worms.
and Frontline Plus

Frontline Spray is the most effective insecticide against adult fleas.
It is applied all over your pet. It lasts up to 6-8 weeks on cats, and 2-3 months on dogs.
It is waterproof, so long as you don't bath your pet within 2 days before or after applying it.
Frontline Plus is applied monthly to the back of your pet's neck.
It's not quite as effective as the spray and doesn't last as long, but
it's much easier to use, particularly for cats, or for dogs that are large,
uncooperative or have a thick coat.
It also includes an insect growth regulator. The few fleas not killed by the insecticide
(especially if you miss a dose) will be sterilised and so won't breed more fleas.
It thus provides integrated flea control in a single product.

A single dose of Capstar should kill the adult fleas on your pet.
If your pet gets reinfested with fleas, you can safely give another dose
as often as once per day.
However, we recommend using Capstar only for short-term use, in combination with
a longer acting product such as Sentinel.

is a concentrate that can be used for both flea and tick control.
It can be used as a rinse, or diluted to make up your own inexpensive flea spray.
