Why Pet Insurance?

Your pets are precious and you want to protect them from harm and look after them in the best way possible. It doesn’t matter how much love and care we provide, accidents and illness are beyond our control. The level of health care available to our pets is expanding all the time. New drugs, specialists and advanced medical, surgical and diagnostic procedures can be quite expensive. Pet Health Insurance is simple, affordable, and covers your pet for vet costs as a result of accident and illness, allowing you to proceed with whatever treatment is needed, without having to worry about the cost.

There are numerous schemes available, such as Prosure, Pet Plan, and Pet Secure.  Some insurance companies also allow you to add Pet Health Insurance as an option on your home contents.  

What do they cover?

Pet Insurance schemes are designed to cover unexpected illness or injury.  They'll refund up to 100% of costs (up to $18,000 per year) that you have paid to a vet, towards consultation, hospitalisation, medication, blood tests, radiology, surgery and much more. You can choose cover for accidents only, accident and illness, or a more comprehensive Accidental Injury and Illness and Wellness Care Policy.  Some exclusions apply and are outlined in the table below.  The exclusions are very similar for most policies, but we recommend you read the policy statements for full details.  They don't generally cover things like vaccinations, worming or desexing, although most companies have policies that do contribute part-payment towards these routine health care costs. Animals must be healthy at the time of application, must be microchipped, and must be vaccinated annually.

What do they cost?

Between $8 and $50 per month, depending on the level of cover required.  Discounts may be available for multiple pets.
